Microsoft Buys Havok Tech For Games, Will Continue Licensing For PlayStation

Microsoft Buys 3D Physics Developer Havok


Havok is a fantastic technology supplier in the games industry and the leading real time physics creator”, the companiesstated in a joint press release. The gaming engine, which has been used in many popular titles across the gaming universe, is a new addition to Microsoft’s portfolio of products. Microsoft said it will add Havok systems to its existing tools and platform components for developers, including DirectX 12, Visual Studio and Microsoft Azure.



Crackdown 3 launches next year for the Xbox One, and will be one of many games to feature the now Microsoft-owned Havok logo on its box. Following the Microsoft buyout, Havok notes that it “will continue to work with developers to create great games experiences, and continue to license Havok’s development tools to third party partners”.
Havok has formerly joined hands with Activision, Microsoft, EA, Nintendo, Sony, Ubisoft, and a lot of others to generate over 600 games comprising Halo, Destiny, Call of Duty, Dark Souls, Assassin’s Creed and The Elder Scrolls.

Havok’s act upon goes beyond casual gaming as their computer graphics could have been applied in movie likeX-Men First ClassWorld War Single grain ofHarry Potter,James Bond, and The Matrix. ‘We will continue to innovate for the benefit of development partners.
To give a few indication of Havok’s worth, when Intel bought the company all the way back in September of 2007, it cost $110 million.
